For those who don't know you - who are you and what do you do?
I’m Jay from South Korea, and I’m a barber in Manchester.
How did you first get into barbering - was it creative from the start?
Since I was young, I’ve always cared about fashion and hair, and always liked to create, so I feel like becoming a barber came quite natural to me.
What inspires you outside of fashion and grooming - music, art, people?
I get inspiration from everywhere, especially classic movies, old grandpas on the street, vintage posters and magazines etc.
Which comes first - a good outfit or a good trim?
For me, I always think about my outfit first, hair second! Now my hair has grown longer I usually just tie it up.
Are there any brands Yards stocks that really speak to your personal style?
There’s many brands from Yards Store but if I have to choose then RRL, Barbour, Filson & Uskees.
How important is it to you to support local or independent stores like Yards?
Super important. Local spots are more than just shopping. Real people, real stories, and that’s what keeps everything authentic.
What's a Yards Store piece that you think everyone should own?
I would have to say Vintage 5 pocket selvedge denim from RRL, in my opinion, having a good quality straight fit selvedge denim is no.1 for your wardrobe, you can wear them everyday with something different.
Where do you see your style going next? Evolving or refining?
In the last 20 years, I try and change so many different styles, and now I think I’ve finally found what I truly like and is authentic to me, so I think my style will stay! Filling my wardrobe with iconic brands and classic items will be my focus.
