Terrex footwear divides into two groups doing quite different jobs. Trail running shoes are light, flexible and built to move quickly over rough ground. Hiking shoes and boots are stiffer underfoot, more supportive around the ankle and made to carry weight over longer days. Both use Continental rubber outsoles for grip on wet rock, and both are widely available with Gore-Tex waterproofing.

Agravic: trail running

Agravic is the trail-running family and the largest part of our selection. The Agravic Speed and Speed Ultra sit at the lighter, faster end, made for race pace and shorter efforts. The Agravic 3 and Agravic 4 are the everyday trail shoes, with more cushioning underfoot for regular training. The Agravic TT and Agravic Flow add durability and grip for rougher terrain, while the Gore-Tex and Flox versions bring waterproofing for winter running. If you are new to trail running, the Agravic 3 is the sensible starting point.

Skychaser and Trailmaker: hiking

Skychaser is the hiking line, available as low walking shoes and mid boots, with Gore-Tex on most models and the AX5 versions offering the most substantial build for rougher ground. Trailmaker covers similar territory at a lower price, including a COLD.RDY mid boot for winter walking. Both give more support and protection than the trail shoes without the weight of traditional leather boots.

Free Hiker and Swift R3

The Free Hiker franchise takes a sneaker-shaped approach to hiking footwear and has been one of the brand's most popular lines since it launched in 2019. It works well on paths and easier trails and looks at home off the hill too. The Freehiker SL is the lighter Gore-Tex version. The Swift R3 Mid is the more traditional option, a Gore-Tex mid boot built for proper walking.

All of this footwear sits within the wider adidas Terrex range, which also covers jackets, fleece and layering for the same conditions.

Adidas Terrex Schuhe FAQs

Trail running shoes such as the Agravic are lighter and more flexible, built for moving quickly with minimal weight. Hiking shoes and boots such as Skychaser and Trailmaker are stiffer, more supportive and better suited to carrying a pack over longer days. Many walkers use trail shoes on easier ground and boots when conditions get rougher.
Look for Gore-Tex or GTX in the product name. Most Skychaser, Trailmaker and Swift R3 models include it, and several Agravic versions are available in Gore-Tex for winter running. COLD.RDY on the Trailmaker Mid indicates added insulation for cold-weather walking rather than waterproofing.
For general UK hill walking, a Gore-Tex Skychaser or Trailmaker is the practical choice, given how often the ground is wet. Mid-height versions add ankle support on uneven terrain. The Free Hiker suits easier paths and doubles as everyday footwear.
Terrex footwear generally fits in line with other adidas shoes. If you are between sizes or plan to wear thicker walking socks, sizing up half a size is worth considering. Our Manchester and Sheffield shops can help with fitting if you would rather try before buying.
Continental supplies the rubber compound used in most Terrex outsoles, the same company that makes tyres. It is used because it holds grip well on wet rock and loose surfaces, which is the main reason Terrex shoes perform well in British conditions.
