About Diadora trainers

Diadora started in 1948 when Marcello Danieli and Rinaldo Menegon set up a workshop in Caerano di San Marco making mountain and work boots. The location was not incidental — the Montebelluna foothills had built a footwear industry supplying the Italian army during the First World War, and Danieli had trained as a shoemaker in that tradition before starting on his own. Ski boots followed in the 1960s, and by the 1970s Diadora had moved into tennis and running, which is where nearly everything in this range comes from.

The distinguishing feature is materials. Where a lot of reissued trainers use synthetic panels, Diadora tends to build in suede and leather, which is why the older shapes still read as shoes rather than costume.

Diadora Cross Trainers and running models

The Cross Trainer is the shape most people arrive looking for — a low 1980s running silhouette on a gum sole with a suede upper. The Equipe 75 sits close to it, slimmer through the toe, and the Mythos Star is the bulkier of the running group with more going on in the sole unit. The Hairy Trainer uses a napped suede that reads quite differently in person from the smooth versions, which is worth knowing before ordering on a photograph.

Diadora Tokyo, B.560 and the tennis shapes

The tennis side is flatter and cleaner. The Tokyo is the simplest thing here, a plain leather court shoe for occasions where a running silhouette would be too much. The B.560 Foro Italia takes its name from the Rome tennis complex and sits on a slightly fuller sole. Both carry the Diadora side stripe rather than a logo, which is the quietest way the brand marks a shoe and part of why these work with more than sportswear.
