For those who don't know you - who are you and what do you do?
I’m Ben Greenie and a bit of everything, mainly content creating and creative direction.
Doing what you do, what does a typical day look like?
It really varies, I can spend days out taking pictures, sat in cafe’s making concept decks or at home editing content. No two days look the same.
What's something about your background or where you're from that's shaped how you dress or express yourself today?
I think being from Manchester has really affected me, it’s always raining so being comfortable and staying dry has been something I’ve always been conscious of.
What's one piece you own that tells a story - and what's the story behind it?
I have an old pair of yellow Norda 001s. They’re pretty battered now as I’ve worn them hiking, trail running and all round the world on my travels. One trip they remind me of was out in Japan, I met up with some of the team from And Wander and they took me on a hike out in Otsukimachi. I think about this a lot when I wear these Nordas.
What kind of things outside of fashion feed your creativity?
Definitely travel, experiencing new places, cultures and perspectives on life. Things that are new to me always give me a source of inspiration.
A lot of brands we stock are rooted in outdoor culture - does that resonate with the way you see fashion or live day-to-day?
Yeah! I'm outside a lot, hiking, climbing or running. I love brands that lean both into that side of my lifestyle as well as being wearable everyday in the city.
If you could build your ideal Yards outfit for a day in the city, what would it look like?
This is a good one, at the moment I’ve been eyeing up the And Wander Top Fleece Coat, the Goldwin Pullover Floating Windshell Hoodie, Snowpeak Water Repellent Stretch Trekking Pants and those Cinder Norda 001 to finish it off. A good mix of practicality, comfort and style.
Whose style do you admire - not just for what they wear, but how they carry themselves?
Got to be somebody like Frank Ocean, I love how he just seems to do what he wants and doesn’t worry too much about the social norms. Also, have you ever seen his Paris apartment, can tell he’s a mega stylish guy from one look at that.
How do you balance trends with your own thing - or do you even think about it?
I don't pay too much attention, I like to believe that I'm pretty confident within my personal style. I also think trends can affect over consumption negatively, I'd rather look for pieces outside of trends and be confident that what I buy will last me a long time, hopefully forever.
If your style had a soundtrack, what would be playing?
As I just mentioned him, let’s go with Frank Ocean, Channel Orange.
