For those who don’t know you — who are you and what do you do?
Hi, I’m Sammy and I’m a fashion and style content creator and musician from London.
How’s life in London going? What’s your favourite thing about the city?
London life is going well thanks, a couple of years ago I moved back after 5 years overseas. It took a bit to adjust but I’m fully back in the groove now, living in Hackney and loving it.
My favourite thing is the diversity, it’s a melting pot of culture and existing with people from all different backgrounds and ethnicities is inspiring and a blessing. After living overseas I definitely came back with a reignited appreciation for it.
Music and fashion are so intertwined — what are you listening to lately, and how is it influencing what you wear?
At the moment I’ve been listening to a lot of Blood Orange. He’s been a big influence on me both musically and stylistically, there’s a fluidity and looseness to everything he does. He has the ability to make simple look elevated, and more out there still feel cohesive.
Yards stocks a mix of brands — do you have a current favourite, and what draws you to it?
At the moment I would have to say Solovair. The fact they’re still producing high quality classic silhouettes in the UK, at the price they do, is pretty hard to beat. I’m a sucker for their Mary Janes too.
Is there someone, past or present, that you look up to for their style?
I’ve been skating since I was a kid and growing up I was a big fan of a guy called Dylan Rieder. He was probably my first real fashion influence. His style moved against typical skater culture at the time and he definitely got some flack for it, but he never changed and always did him. Him, his mindset and his skating were effortless, rebellious and authentic and he remains a huge influence to this day.
It’s clear to see you love your guitar! Do you have a favourite band/artist?
Haha I do indeed. My favourite band since I can remember has been The Stokes. Julian Casablancas is one cool MF.
Summer or winter fits?
SPRING! Haha no but if I had to choose, winter. There’s nothing quite like a nice winter long coat.
How do independent stores influence the wider fashion scene, in your opinion?
Independent stores play a massive role. They’re usually the ones taking risks curating brands that aren’t everywhere and giving space to smaller designers. They help to shape taste rather than just follow it.
Where do you find inspiration beyond fashion — music, film, people-watching?
Honestly all of the above, but particularly people watching. In London we’re so blessed that along with the culture comes a huge variation in expression through fashion and style. If you need inspiration you only need to look around you.
If you could pick a Yards outfit head-to-toe what are you going for?
Ok let’s do this. On the bottom lets say a pair of distressed relaxed jeans from RRL, on top lets have a Goldwin waffle long sleeve, on feet it would have to be Paraboot Michaels and lets chuck on an RRL tote and some Persol sunnies for good measure.
